Ayushmann Khurrana’s latest movie Anek has opened to poor Box Office collections on its first weekend. The film ended up earning only Rs. 5.50 crores till first Sunday. After seeing a little rise on Saturday, the Box Office for this movie dropped again on Sunday.
Anek earned Rs. 1.75 crores on Sunday, which is the first day Box Office collections of the film. The Box Office dropped from Rs. 2 crores to Rs. 1.75 crores from Saturday to Sunday.
The movie has minted almost as much as Amitabh Bachchan-Nagraj Manjule’s Jhund. The film had earned Rs. 5 crores in its first weekend.
Anek suffered mainly because of IPL. The much-awaited moment in cricket was here as IPL had its finals, which proved to be a refreshing turnaround after Gujarat Titans won against Rajasthan Royals.
Anubhav Sinha’s film is not one that usually has a mass appeal. It sends across a message, which is usually seen by multiplex crowd. However, given the circumstances, including rise in COVID-19 and now, Monkeypox fear, the crowds are anyway resistant to step out.
Add the appeal of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 to that and you know why Anek is not a movie the mass would give an opportunity in theatres. However, this has been the situation in the post-COVID era anyway. Most Bollywood films have failed to work and once in a while, a Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Sooryavanshi or The Kashmir Files comes and breaks the dry spell.
After its theatrical run, Anek will release on OTT. The release date for the same has not yet been confirmed but the film will start streaming on Netflix soon.
