Responding to Swastika's comments, Anupam expressed, “The credit for the viral pictures of my look as Rabindranath Tagore entirely goes to my team. I know many people did not like this look, and some actresses have also made strange remarks after seeing it. I just want to say that there are some people who want to be popular by being controversial. Are they Tagore’s spokesperson? So, why should I be concerned about what they think? I don't even know them!”

Recently, Anupam has been seen immersing himself in the role of Rabindranath Tagore. The biopic on the life of the poet is being produced, with Anupam as the lead actor. He is seen dressed in the attire of Rabindranath, with his signature hairstyle and white beard. Audiences were amazed to see Anupam in this new avatar and have shown great curiosity about the film. However, as a Bengali, Swastika Mukherjee was not impressed with his portrayal.
