Liger, the much-anticipated film starring Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday, is just a few days away from its release and Anushka Shetty took to Instagram to wish team Liger. Vijay Deverakonda thanked the Baahubali actor for her gesture and expressed hope that the Puri Jagannadh directorial would prompt her to call him again, as she did after seeing Arjun Reddy. The 2017 Telugu film, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, went on to become a rage.
Vijay Deverakonda makes his Bollywood debut with Liger, and the film is about a mixed martial arts boxer with a stutter. While preparing for his role, the actor trained in mixed martial arts in Thailand. Shot in Telugu and Hindi at the same time, Vijay Deverakonda dubbed his lines in Hindi as well.
Meanwhile, Ananya's first pan-India film is Liger. In an interview, director Puri Jagannadh revealed that he had originally planned to cast Janhvi Kapoor in the lead role. “I am a huge fan of Sridevi ji, so I wanted to cast Janhvi, but her dates were not available,” he told reporters in Mumbai, adding that Ananya was recommended to him by Karan Johar.
Vijay Deverakonda, on his part, said the audience will forget Arjun Reddy after watching Liger. “When I did Pelli Choopulu, I remember being tagged as the 'Pelli Choopulu actor' for almost two years. It irritated me after a while. Then, Arjun Reddy happened. Hopefully, after Liger's release, people will associate me with this one."
Liger is the first film Dharma Productions backed starring a South Asian actor. Speaking on the neverending north versus south debate, Vijay Deverakonda said, Karan Johar was the producer who took Baahubali all over the country and demonstrated that it was possible to make Indian cinema in a big way. "This man's only goal is to work toward collaborating with different industries on the same platform. Popular opinion will shift over time, but we should always be grateful for his contributions to cinema and life. Liger will do well in India, in my opinion.”
Vijay Deverakonda, further, expressed his gratitude for the positive response, noting that it had been two years since he had a theatrical release and that his previous film, World Famous Lover, was a box office flop.
The supporting cast of the sports action drama includes Ramya Krishnan, Ronit Roy, Vishu Reddy, Ali, Makarand Desh Pandey, Getup Srinu and ace boxer Mike Tyson.
