James Cameron’s Avatar was a ground-breaking movie when it came out in 2009 and became the biggest grossing movie of all time. The sequel for the movie, which is in the works, is already one of the most anticipated movies of all time.

Cameron has now stated that portions of the story of the sequel takes place on planet Earth. In a Directors on Directors segment from Variety, the filmmaker sat down with Denis Villeneuve and discussed his upcoming sequel.

"Just like Dune takes place across worlds, the later Avatars take place across, certainly across two worlds, because some of it takes place on Earth as the story evolves," said Cameron.

While the filmmaker made sure he did not reveal much details about the movie, it is now understood that the movie will spend some time on Earth as well as the lush green planet Pandora.

The cast of the movie is still unknown, but it is confirmed that some of the characters from the first movie will return for the sequel, including Sam Worthington as Jake, Zoe Saldana as Neytiri, Sigourney Weaver as Dr. Augustine, and Stephen Lang as Colonel Quaritch.

The filmmaker had earlier revealed that Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 will primarily take place around bodies of water. The movie will follow Jake and Neytiri in Pandora along with their three children, as they fight to stay together among new threats.
