It looks like Malayalam actor and director Basil Joseph had an absolute fanboy moment at a recent event held in Chennai. The Minnal Murali director dropped a picture with Isaipuyal AR Rahman and ace director Mani Ratnam. In the picture Basil is seen gushing as ARR takes a selfie of the trio. Calling the Ponniyin Selvan duo legends, Basil wrote that both of them have inspired him in many ways. He captioned the picture, "These legends have inspired me in more ways than one. Today I had my fanboy moment with them (sic)."

Basil had recently received the 'Inspiring filmmaker of the year' award at the OTTplay Changemakers awards. The director shared his excitement on his social media handle, even as he shared a picture with fellow awardees Rajkummar Rao, Rishab Shetty and Joju George.

On the film front, the actor was seen in some of the biggest hits Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey, Mukundan Unni Associates and Enkilum Chandrike. Basil became a pan-India name after he made the first superhero film in Malayalam, Minnal Murali. The film, which starred Tovino Thomas and Guru Somasundaram, revolves around the life of a young tailor named Jaison (Tovino), who gets superpower after he gets struck by lightning. The film received critical acclaim for its innovative idea, casting, performances, VFX, soundtrack and more.

Later, Basil played the lead in director Vipin Das's Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey, in which teamed up opposite Darshana Rajendran. The film was a satire on gender stereotypes and Basil played a short-tempered abusive husband in it. The film was a massive hit at the box office.

Basil Joseph began his career in films as an assistant director to Vineeth Sreenivasan in his third directorial venture Thira (2013). He made his directorial debut with Kunjiramayanam and went on to make films like Godha and Minnal Murali
