Beast: Vijay fans celebrate the movie’s release by gifting petrol to 100 two-wheeler owners

Vijay fans are known to be an eccentric bunch, who have always celebrated each of the star’s movies to the fullest. Their latest means of celebration however, is strange and expensive to say the least.

While Beast was welcomed with massive cutouts of Thalapathy Vijay and by pouring milk on it and bursting fireworks, the fans also took to the streets handing out Petrol. In the Tambaram area of Chengalpattu, fans of the superstar distributed a litre of Petrol to 100 two-wheelers.

Reportedly, theatres in Virudhunagar also had a new offer in place for the fans which involved Petrol. The theatre gave 1 litre of petrol free of cost to people who bought five first day first show tickets to Beast.

This strange style of celebration comes at a big cost, considering that a litre of petrol costs about Rs. 110 in Chennai.

The movie has also started off impressively at the box office, reportedly becoming the highest grossing movie on opening day in the state, collecting over Rs. 30 crore. The movie also did a business of Rs. 1.96 crore in the city of Chennai on its first day, making it the highest grossing movie in Chennai city on Day 1 post-pandemic.

The movie, which is set in a mall in Chennai which is hijacked by terrorists, received mixed reviews from critics. “All said and done, the movie does have flaws that are quite obvious. The limited space in the mall acts as a constraint after a point, and the proceedings become repetitive.” reads OTTplay’s review of Beast.

Also featuring Selvaraghavan, Pooja Hegde, Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, Shaji Chen, Aparna Das, and Ankur Ajit, the movie is available in theatres around the world.
