Five days after Justin Bieber took to social media to talk about his partial paralysis of the face due to Ramsay Hunt Syndrome, Kolkata-based musician Ananjan Chakraborty paid tribute to the pop icon with a mashup of his song. Ananjan, son of Indian Classical vocalist, Ajay Chakrabarty, reinterpreted Lonely, by Justin Bieber and Benny Blanco, with a traditional thumri, Tore Bina Balma. The mash-up is presented by playback singer Madhuraa Bhattacharya and Bitan Das.

“I am a fan of Justin Bieber. I have been thinking over a mashup for a while now. But after hearing about his medical condition, I thought this would be the right time to pay a tribute to him. This is also a note of encouragement from one musician to another. I hope he gets back to his groove in no time,” Ananjan told exclusively to OTTplay.

While explaining the music, Ananjan said that when he heard Lonely for the first time, he felt it was influenced by Rag Kaushik Dhwani. “Also, it talks about loneliness – an eternal emotion that is relevant to every corner of the world. Ever since I thought I should work on the music a little. I heard the thumri, Tora Bina Balma, from my sister Kaushiki Chakraborty. I felt that this song too talks about the same ethos of loneliness. That’s how I started blending the two pieces of music. I have not done covers before and do not intend to do it again. But this mashup is my tribute to Justine Bieber,” Ananjan told us.

The music has a video that features Ananjan, Riti Chowdhury and Jyotirmoy Roy. The video talks about heartbreaks and loneliness.
