Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will soon kickstart production after several setbacks, including on-set injuries and COVID-19 infections owing to the third wave of the pandemic.
Actor Letitia Wright, who will reprise her role as Shuri in the sequel, will return on set in Atlanta, following an injury in August.
The Hollywood Reporter writes that production was slated to begin on Monday but was delayed after crew and cast members including Lupita Nyong’o tested positive for COVID-19. According to sources, the filming will go on for four weeks in Atlanta.
Wright had been injured in August in Boster and eventually hospitalised that prevented her from filming. After this, she left for London and the team shot as much as they could around her absence.
She had also faced backlash after her controversial comments on COVID vaccines. Sources did not speak on her vaccine status but did mention that this issue has been resolved.
Ryan Coogler returns to direct the sequel, which has to be reconceptualised after the death of the lead star Chadwick Boseman who died of colon cancer in August 2020.
Upon its release in 2018, the original Black Panther was lauded for its story and all-Black cast. It also earned seven Academy Awards including one for Best Picture. The superhero movie can be streamed on Disney+ Hotstar in India.
