The shoot for director Pa Ranjith's next, which is tentatively being referred to as Chiyaan61 has begun with a look test. Now, the film's composer GV Prakash Kumar has announced on his social media page that a very big update from the film will be revealed soon and that Chiyaan61 is an interesting project to work on musically. He wrote on his social media handle, "#chiyaan61 @beemji @StudioGreen2 …. Update very very soon .. going to be a killer ride … musically a very interesting project to work on….. exciting times ahead, (sic)."

Chiyaan61 is set in the pre-independence era in the backdrop of the Kolar Gold Field and will revolve around the lives of the marginalised communities living in the field. Ranjith had stated during an interview that the film will be based on a community that has been yearning for respect for generations and that Vikram's character will be something that he has never done before. Ranjith also stated that the film will have a strong woman character, but may not likely play the love interest of the protagonist, but will be a character that will traverse independently through the script.

Chiyaan61 is being bankrolled by KE Gnanavel Raja and the film is set to be made on a grand scale. In the meantime, we hear that the film will be made on a large scale and will be a pan-India project. The film is also said to be a visual. The rest of the star cast is yet to be announced.
Vikram is currently basking in the success of his recent outing, Mani Ratnam's magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan, in which he played the Chola Crown Prince Aditha Karikalan. The film has been declared as one of the biggest hits in the Tamil film industry and the historical fiction continues its rampage in the box office.
