Cobra, starring Vikram and KGF-fame Srinidhi Shetty in lead roles, has been lying in the cans for more than two years. However, the latest information is that Cobra director Ajay Gnanamuthu and Vikram will reunite on another project. Unconfirmed reports say that the shooting of this one will begin as soon as Vikram completes Maidhaanam (tentatively titled) with Pa Ranjith. A source tells OTTplay, "It is true that the discussions have been initiated between Vikram sir and Ajay. Although, it's too early to confirm anything."

Ajay Gnanamuthu, a former assistant to AR Murugadoss, made his directorial debut with Demonte Colony, a thriller, which went on to become a hit. Eventually, the filmmaker made Imaikkaa Nodigal, with Nayanthara, Atharvaa and Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap in important roles.

According to several reports, Cobra has been stuck in post-production work. "A few portions were to be shot abroad. Due to Covid, the team couldn't do anything. We are looking to release the film post-June," the source informs OTTplay.

Ajay was in the news earlier, for slashing his remuneration by 40 per cent (which equals about Rs 1.5 crore) for Cobra. Produced by Lalit Kumar of Seven Screen Studios, in association with Viacom18, Cobra went on the floors in August 2019. "This film will be a pan-Indian project, catering to the Tamil, Hindi and Telugu audience," a statement from the makers read.

Cobra, also starring KS Ravikumar, Mia George, Kanika, Padmapriya, Roshan Mathew, Robo Shankar and Babu Antony, has music by AR Rahman. The film marks cricketer Irfan Pathan's acting debut in Tamil cinema. The shooting of the film, which was ongoing for three years, was wrapped on February 15.

Interestingly, Vikram started shooting for Karthik Subbaraj’s Mahaan, much after he began work on Cobra. Mahaan was released on Amazon Prime Video some time ago. Billed as a big-budget action thriller, Cobra has Vikram playing the role of a brilliant mathematician, who uses numbers to solve crimes in the film. For now, we know Irfan Pathan will be seen in the role of an Interpol officer.

Cobra will also see Vikram in twenty-five different looks, and the get-ups are being designed by a US-based company, reported Cinema Express. If this turned true, Vikram would create the world record for playing the most number of characters in a movie in the history of cinema.

Notably, Sivaji Ganesan had portrayed nine roles in the 1964 Tamil film, Navarathri, while Kamal Haasan had donned ten characters in Dasavatharam. Priyanka Chopra, incidentally, holds the current world record of playing twelve characters in What is Your Rashee. In Hollywood, Eddie Murphy had played seven to eight roles in Coming to America and The Nutty Professor.
