On July 8, Walt Disney Animation Studios dropped the trailer of its upcoming film Encanto on YouTube, which will mark the studios’ 60th film. Encanto features the Madrigal family at its core, who is Columbian and possess magical powers which include shapeshifting, super strength and an ability to control flora and fauna. The only person of the family who doesn’t possess any magical power is Mirabel, voiced by Stephanie Beatriz of the Brooklyn Nine-Nine fame.
Watch the magical, colour-popping trailer below:
The man of many talents, Lin-Manuel Miranda, celebrated actor, director, singer, composer and much more under his belt will be composing the score for the upcoming film. His directorial debut Tick, Tick... Boom, starring Vanessa Hudgens and Andrew Garfield will be released later this year on Netflix. Stephanie Beatriz was last seen in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical film, In The Heights and will be seen in the final season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine in August.
From the trailer, Encanto seems to be a magical comedy movie, promising adventures to enthral kids and adults alike, with melodic tunes from Miranda complementing the film.
The Byron Howard and Jared Bush directorial has been co-directed and co-written by Charise Castro Smith. It is slated for a theatrical release on November 24 and will make its way to Disney+ Hotstar most probably, seeing past trends.
