Director Shashank Talya has been angling for a July release for his film Kousalya Supraja Rama, but he’d been waiting on word on Rakshit Shetty’s Sapta Sagaradaache Ello to make plans. Rakshit had earlier said that his team was looking at a release date close to the Muharram holiday, in the end of July, which didn’t work out and now Shashank has taken that date. A little while ago, the filmmaker revealed that Kousalya Supraja Rama will be in theatres on July 28.

Kousalya Supraja Rama is Shashank’s first collaboration with Darling Krishna. The filmmaker, whose last, Love 360, was an adaptation of the Korean drama The Mother, has been guarded about the subject of the film. While he has admitted that there is a love story in the film, much of the narrative focuses on the relationship dynamic between Krishna’s character Rama and his mother Supraja, played by Sudha Belawadi. Premam Poojyam fame Brinda Acharya is paired with Krishna, while Milana Nagaraj will be seen in a pivotal role.

The film has music by Arjun Janya, with three songs currently in the public domain. The first, Shivani, is the most popular one so far, and is an Instagram reel favourite. The second song saw Arjun reunite with Sonu Nigam for the soulful Preethisuve and the third was the title track. With just under four weeks to go for the release, the trailer of the film is also expected shortly.

For Darling Krishna, a lot is riding on Kousalya Supraja Rama, considering that in the last few years, barring his own directorials – Love Mocktail and Love Mocktail 2 – none of his other films have managed to create a ripple at the box office. Shashank’s script, though, seems to be different from the run-of-the mill love stories that the actor has been doing for a while. In earlier interviews with the media, Krishna had said that he favours love stories for his filmography, as they have repeat value, unlike thrillers.
