Abhishek Bachchan and Nimrat Kaur are gearing up for the OTT release of their latest film, Dasvi. The duo recently opened up about the film’s themes and message.
In conversation with ETimes, the duo were asked whether the film’s theme revolves around second chances or the importance of education. To this, Kaur replied that both themes went hand in hand. The actress talked of her love for stories where people decide to pick up something they’d left unfinished, and this could be the case with their education as well. She said that it was not uncommon to hear stories of women in their 50s and 60s, who decided to go back to school to complete their degrees. “I've heard a lot of those kind of stories and I find them wonderful,” she said.
Calling the film an ‘all-out entertainer’, Bachchan said that he did not prefer to categorise a film as ‘socially relevant’. It was not sensible for a film to ‘shove its message’ down audiences’ throats just for the sake of it. The best thing would be for a film to communicate its message in an entertaining way. The star also added that although Dasvi was a masala film, it had clean entertainment that could be enjoyed by everyone in the family.
Kaur also opened up on how its important that a film with a social message should be entertaining as well. Even a film with a very crucial message would end up not working for audiences, if the film itself was boring. “The audience has to connect with the film first only then they’ll connect with the message,” she added.
Dasvi will be available for streaming on Netflix and Jio Cinema from April 7.
