Word of mouth plays a major role in deciding what content we consume in the OTT space and unlike theatrical releases, good content isn't always about star power or influential names. A barely promoted Telugu film Pachchis - a mystery thriller with very few recognisable faces that was released on Amazon Prime Video on the previous weekend is creating ripples on social media. Featuring Raamz, Swetaa Varma, Jay Chandra, Ravi Varma, Dayanand Reddy, Keshav Deepak, Subhalekha Sudhakar and Vishwendar Reddy in key roles, the film was directed by debutants Sri Krishna and Rama Sai.
"That the film breaks away from the four songs, two fights routine that one regularly notices in mainstream flicks has come as a major relief for the viewer. We've taken a lot of care to give a dark visual tone to the film. It was shot in sync sound completely. Pachchis keeps the viewer guessing always. We didn't go overboard on the promotions because it's a film with new names and we genuinely believed that the word of mouth would do the trick. We couldn't have been happier after seeing the responses on social media. This proves that quality content has no barriers," Prem Kumar from Raasta Films that bankrolled Pachchis told OTTplay.
Pachchis is about a gambling addict's desperate need for money that causes him to venture into an uncharted realm, where it seems like things can only get much worse. The film's technical crew, including the cinematographer Kartik Parmar, editor Rana Prathap are newcomers and a majority of team Pachchis have made their film debut through this project. Shot on a shoestring budget, significant portions of Pachchis were filmed during the nights and the team pulled off a result that scores high on technical appeal and is consistently gripping at the same time.
