Sam Raimi defined an era with his efforts at bringing the live-action version of Spider-Man into mainstream cinema with his original 2000s trilogy with Tobey Maguire. And it seems, he’s looking to soon deliver another remarkable Marvel film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. A new trailer for the upcoming film was released recently and to say that it set the internet on fire would be an understatement.
Fans had nothing but good things to say about the trailer and it certainly fired up their expectations of the film. Star Benedict Cumberbatch, who essays the role of the titular Doctor Strange, seemed to confirm that the upcoming film would certainly try to deliver on the ‘madness’. In a conversation with Empire magazine recently, the actor opened up about the film, highlighting the importance of having Raimi on board as its director.
Cumberbatch talked about how it had been about making the film a ‘Sam Raimi Picture’. Raimi is perhaps best known for helming the original Spider-Man trilogy starring Tobey Maguire and also the horror film franchise Evil Dead. Cumberbatch also promises that the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel is guaranteed to make audiences’ ‘heads spin’.
The upcoming film takes a deep dive into the concept of the multiverse, focussing on the consequences that Strange has to face after he meddles with powerful spells during the events in Spider-Man: No Way Home, led by Tom Holland. The film also features Elizabeth Olsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Rachel McAdams.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be released in theatres on May 6, 2022.
