The Dream Girl team is reportedly collaborating again for a sequel to the hit comedy drama. The 2019 film, directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa and produced by Ekta Kapoor, features Ayushmann Khurrana as a cross-gender actor, working at a call centre, whose female voice impersonation lures more male callers. The film also features Nushrratt Bharuccha, Annu Kapoor, Manjot Singh, Vijay Raaz, Abhishek Banerjee, Raj Bhansali and Nidhi Bisht in supporting roles.
The film Dream Girl is the highest-grossing film at the box office for the Khurrana. It had collected about Rs 140 crore and became the second 100-crore grosser for him, making him one of the bankable stars of Bollywood. Now, three years after the film, there are reports doing the rounds that the drama is getting a sequel.
According to Pinkvilla, sources have confirmed that Dream Girl 2 is in the making. The film is said to go on floors in the second half of the year. The team is looking forward to expanding the Dream Girl franchise. “Ayushmann Khurrana, Ekta Kapoor and Raaj are all excited to expand Dream Girl into a franchise. The team has been working on a script for a while now and the things have finally been locked. The pre-production work has begun, and the film is expected to go on floors as early as June 2022,” the source told the portal.
The sequel, Dream Girl 2 is also expected to be a comedy film with a subtle social message, much like the first film. Dream Girl 2 will be a follow-up to the first movie and the team is said to have found a perfect script to do justice to the franchise. Reports further suggest that the team has begun the recce for locations and the set design has also begun. We can expect an official announcement soon.
Meanwhile, Ayushmann Khurrana is busy currently with several projects in the pipeline. He is shooting for the Aanand L Rai production, Action Hero in London. He also has Anubhav Sinha’s Anek, which is scheduled to release in theatres in May this year. He also has Anubhuti Kashya's Doctor G with Rakul Preet Singh as his female lead and Shefali Shah and Sheeba Chaddha in supporting roles.
