Mukherjee Dar Bou

A complex relationship drama, the story is a heart-rending tale of two women trying to discover their identities, outside the boundaries of their households and struggling against the shackles that society has forced them to wear. With phenomenal performances by Anashua Majumdar and Koneenica Banerjee, Mukherjee Dar Bou is a realistic mirror of our world, which often leaves women at the mercy of the so-called patriarchs.

Autograph

How far would you go to quench your thirst for success? Does excessive ambition undermine the moral compass of oneself, and leads to the compromising of your moral stance? All these conundrums are addressed in this Srijit Mukherji trademark, revolving around superstar Arun Chatterjee, whose hunger for total control forces him on a path beyond return as he tramples every morality on the way.

Koshtoneer

A family drama, the movie deals with the dysfunctional Chowdhury household, with old wounds being stirred again as the members reunite for a family wedding. With a commentary on the complicated relationships between parents and children, the movie is an aching tale that deserves to be on the trending list.

Guptodhoner Sondhane

Mystery and suspense, combined with the charm of Abir Chatterjee as Sonada, strikes the right chords in this adventurous tale. Fascinating riddles, impeccable humour, historical references and a commendable cast turn this movie into one hell of a treasure hunt, that keeps you glued to the screen while wondering what will happen in the end.

Khaad

A moral and spiritual abyss, the movie follows the tale of a group who face an accident yet survive miraculously, stuck in a ravine, only to reveal their darkest secrets, exploring if there ever is a way out — not just from the valley but also from the spiralling depths of their selves caught in purgatory.

Chitrangada

A movie highlighting the pain, discrimination and marginalization faced by LGBTQ people, the story is based on a couple Rudra and Partho, who decide to adopt a child but are legally denied the right to adopt, forcing Rudra to consider a sex-change surgery. One of Rituparno Ghosh’s classics, the movie is a must-watch that will force you to ponder upon the heteronormativity propaganda of society.

Brahma Janen Gopon Kommoti

Delivering a social message responsibly, and still managing to keep it entertaining, the movie revolves around Sabari, a young Sanskrit professor by day, and a female priest by night. However, things get complicated as she gets married into an orthodox family, having deep-rooted faith in superstitions. Speaking on gender equality and breaking stereotypes, this movie is not only engaging but also conveys the core message in a fun way, understandable to the common audiences.

Chotushkone

A testimony to a web of regrets, deeds and misdeeds, and finally retribution – the tale is weaved around four directors, who experience a sudden run-in with their past, during a visit to a producer, reminding us how every action will reap an opposite reaction, no matter how far you go.

Rosogolla

A warm-hearted ode to a beloved sweet and the power of a little guy, the movie is based on sweet maker Nobin Chandra Das, who is believed to have invented the iconic dessert of Bengal, Rosogolla. Playing the lead role of Nobin is Ujaan Ganguly who manages to breathe life into the starry-eyed boy, dreaming of making something unique to appease his beloved wife, Khirodmoni Devi.
