Netflix signs a deal with Japanese studio Babel Label

Netflix’s new deal with Tokyo-based studio Babel Label will expand their Japanese live-action catalogue. The partnership will give Netflix access to several projects by Babel Label for the next five years. Launched by the Japanese media company CyberAgent back in 2013, the studio became home to the 2020 Japan Academy Award-winner Michihito Fujii. His film The Journalist was adapted by Netflix in 2022.

Esha Deol reveals her new project Main with Kai Po Che star Amit Sadh

After years of taking a sabbatical from the big screen, Esha Deol is set to make a comeback. She took to her social media to reveal her upcoming project, Main with Kai Po Che. In the behind-the-scenes photos, she is seen with a clapperboard and shooting a prison scene with her co-star Amit Sadh. Helmed by Sachin Saraf, the film is being produced by UV Films.

Rian Johnson reveals her thoughts on additional seasons of Poker Face

The Knives Out franchise has established filmmaker Rian Johnson as a pioneer in the mystery genre. He recently revealed the upcoming series, Poker Face, starring Russian Doll star Natasha Lyonne, is set to premiere on Peacock. At the Television Critics Association's winter press tour, Johnson claimed that he wanted to stretch the limited series into a full-length television show.

The Last of Us (Disney+ Hotstar)

The highly anticipated video game adaptation, The Last of Us, has been released on Disney+ Hotstar today. Helmed by Chornobyl showrunner Craig Mazin and creator of the video games Neil Druckmann, the post-apocalyptic drama revolves around a smuggler named Joel. He is tasked with the job of transporting Ellie, a teenage girl across the post-apocalyptic zombie-infested United States. The series features Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie along with Gabriel Luna, Merle Dandridge and Anna Torv.

That 90’s Show (Netflix)

After almost two decades since the last episode of That '70s Show was aired, Netflix is set to release the spin-off teen drama That '90s Show. Following a new set of teens including Leia Forman, the daughter of Eric and Donna, the show takes place in Wisconsin in the summer of 1995. Leia comes to visit her grandparents and gets into the same shenanigans her parents got into years ago. The series features members of the original cast along with several new additions and will be released on 19th January.

The Legend of Vox Machina (Amazon Prime Video)

Created by Chris Prynoski, the animated fantasy series takes place in the fantasy world of Exandria. The show follows the members of Vox Machina, a group of misfits turned mercenaries for hire. They are more interested in easy money than protecting their realm. But when evil threatens their kingdom, they step up to restore justice. The second season of the series is releasing this week on the 20th of January.

Kaapa (Netflix)

The Malayalam action thriller film follows Anand and Binu, a happily married couple who get transferred to Thiruvananthapuram for their jobs. There they find out that Binu's name is present in the "Kerala Anti-social Activities Prevention Act" (KAAPA) because of her alleged crimes. Anand tries to clear her name but incidentally gets caught up in the local gang wars. Directed by Shaji Kailas, the film stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Asif Ali, Aparna Balamurali and Anna Ben.

Mission Majnu (Netflix)

Sidharth Malhotra and Rashmika Mandanna star as the lead in this Hindi spy thriller film. The film follows a RAW field operative taking on an undercover mission in Pakistan to investigate the country's alleged efforts in creating nuclear weapons. His mission gets jeopardized as he has to balance his professional life and his romantic relationship with his blind girlfriend Nasreen. Directed by Shantanu Bagchi, the film is written by Aseem Arrora, Sumit Batheja, and Parveez Shaikh. The espionage thriller will be available to stream on the 20th of January on Netflix.

Fauda S4 (Netflix)

The well-known Israeli television series Fauda is returning for its fourth season this week on Netflix on January 20. Based on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the series follows an undercover commander of the Israeli unit operating inside Palestinian territories. His team is on a mission to hunt Abu-Ahmed, a terrorist who has murdered 143 Israelis. Created by Lior Raz and Avi Issacharoff, the show stars Lior Raz, Hisham Suliman and Shadi Mar'i.
