Ahead of Gangubai Kathiawadi's theatrical release today, the biographical crime drama was screened for Hindi film personalities on Wednesday.
Based on a chapter from journalist-writer S Hussain Zaidi's book The Mafia Queens of Mumbai, Gangubai Kathiawadi relays the story of the most powerful madam in Kamathipura. Alia Bhatt plays the titular role and is joined by Seema Pahwa, Ajay Devgn and Shantanu Maheshwari. Sanjay Leela Bhansali has directed and also composed music for the film.
Vicky Kaushal, Riteish Deshmukh, Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, Shashank Khaitan were among those who have shared their opinion on the film.
Kaushal, on an Instagram Story, wrote: Absolutely shook by the sheer brilliance at display in this film. SLB sir you are a master! And @aliabhatt don't even know what to say about you…breathtakingly amazing as Gangu! Hats off. Big screen cinema magic. Don't miss (sic)."
Shashank Khaitan, who has directed Bhatt in Humpty Sharma ki Dulhania and Badrinath ki Dulhania, also praised the "sheer genius" of the actor. He urged his followers to go watch Gangubai Kathiawadi when it releases.

Hindustan Times writes Bhatt's boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor was unable to make it to the screening. However, his sister Riddhima Kapoor Sahni watched the film with aunt Rima Jain. She took to Instagram and praised Bhatt's performance.
