Actor Dhananjaya marked the release of his 25th film in Gurudev Hoysala, a bustling action drama that saw him wield power and poise as a daredevil police officer. Ably supported by cast members Naveen Shankar, Avinash B.S, Anirudh Bhat, Mayuri Nataraj, etc. and writer-director Vijay N. uncompromising vision, Dhananjaya delivered a fine performance and beckoned to the return of the classic cop movie to the mainstream market.

Fans and other members of the audience were mighty impressed with what the film had to offer and those who paid a visit to the cinema hall, declared it a must-watch.

However, surprisingly, the almost-unanimous positive verdict failed to translate into similarly impressive box office figures. Gurudev Hoysala, despite the promise, is yet to take off and has yielded underwhelming box office over the first five days of its release.

The makers, citing this as a valid concern, have now chosen to slash the ticket prices so as to urge audiences to watch the film on the big screen. From April 4 onwards, Gurudev Hoysala tickets will start from Rs. 112 at single-screen theatres and from Rs. 150 at multiplexes.

A source close to KRG Studios, the producers of the film, shares that the reduced prices are one way of attracting more people to the theatres, adding that there is certainly a lot more scope left for improvement as far as box office performance is concerned. One could attribute the below-par run so far to the competition that surrounds the film in the form of Dasara and Bholaa but the makers of Gurudev Hoysala are currently unable to point out the exact factor guiding the film's theatrical run.

The final weekend of March saw the box office open a day early on account of the festive occasion of Sri Rama Navami. Four films from four different film industries arrived in cinema halls on Thursday, March 30, to set up a rather intriguing clash that had big names Ajay Devgn (Bholaa), Nani (Dasara), Daali Dhananjaya (Gurudev Hoysala) and Simbu (Pathu Thala) as its marquee players. Revered filmmaker Vetrimaaran would arrive the following day (March 31) with his gripping drama Viduthalai - Part 1 and added an edge to this rather vibrant competition.

If this did not suffice, the audiences also had the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League kicking off on Friday with superstars like Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, MS Dhoni, Faf Du Plessis, David Warner and many others headlining it. Evidently, it was a jam-packed extended weekend for the audience who had an amazing amount of diverse content to choose from.
