Hansal Mehta and Pratik Gandhi are gearing up to work their magic yet again it seems. It was announced that the duo are collaborating for an upcoming web series based on the life of Mahatma Gandhi.
The upcoming series, titled Gandhi, will be backed by Applause Entertainment, who shared the news on their official social media handles recently. The series will be based on the biographical books Gandhi Before India (2013) and Gandhi: The Years That Changed the World (2018), written by historian Ramachandra Guha. Hansal will serve as the director and showrunner of the series, with Pratik essaying the lead role in the same. The series is intended to span across multiple seasons. Siddhartha Basu will also be a part of the show as its historical consultant, factual advisor and creative consultant.
Opening up about the series, Hansal spoke of how it was a huge responsibility for a filmmaker to helm a project based on the life of a historic and iconic figure as the Mahatma. “Our vision with the series is to make it as true-to-life as possible and supported by Ramachandra Guha’s work, we are confident and enthusiastic that we will bring audiences something to remember”, said the filmmaker, adding that he was excited to join hands with Applause Entertainment yet again, after Scam 1992. The upcoming project will also mark Hansal and Pratik’s most recent collaboration after Scam 1992 and
Applause Entertainment CEO Sameer Nair talked about how Mahatma Gandhi’s story was also the story of the birth of an entire nation. The CEO spoke of how they had found the perfect storyteller in Hansal to helm the story, and added their excitement in collaborating with the filmmaker and Pratik yet again. “With Hansal’s directorial vision, Pratik’s delicately nuanced performance and Siddhartha Basu joining the creative process, we are excited to bring Gandhi’s, and India’s journey, to a global audience”, he added.
