Alia Bhatt’s upcoming film Gangubai Kathiawadi’s trailer has been making a lot of buzz on the internet. This clip has been receiving praises and lashing in equal amounts. However, the netizens are unhappy with one particular scene and call it racist.

The scene is that where Gangubai (Alia) asks a Nepali dentist if she should stuff all of China in her mouth. The dialogue comes in a very poor taste for various reasons. The dentist is clearly not a Chinese and so, comparing him to a different Nation altogether is hurtful.

To top it up, this particular dentist talks in Hindi. If he did not understand the Indian National Language, judging a person could still be passed off, considering the times the story is set in.

Here are some of the notable reactions:

Gangubai Kathiawadi is the story of a sex worker named Gangubai who lived and bred in the Kathiawadi district of Gujarat. Having dreams of becoming an actor, she later shifted to Mumbai and started living in the red-light area, Kamathipura.

The Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial stars Alia Bhatt in the central role with Seema Pahwa and Indira Tiwari as the female counterparts. The movie also sees cameo appearances by Vijay Raaz, Ajay Devgn, Jim Sarbh and Shantanu Maheshwari.

For the uninitiated, Gangubai Kathiawadi is the story of a real-life mafia queen. The movie is inspired from S. Hussain Zaidi’s book ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai.’

Gangubai Kathiawadi will see Alia perform Gujarat’s dance form, Garba. The movie, backed by Pen Studios, is finally slated to release in theatres on February 25.
