MGM has finally dropped the first trailer for Ridley Scott’s upcoming crime film House of Gucci. It gives us a peek into the glamorous, cold-blooded world of the Gucci empire’s kingpins in two minutes.

House of Gucci is based on the book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed by Sara Gay Forden. The film, set in 1995, revolves around the story of Patrizia Reggiani, who was convicted of arranging an assassin to kill her ex-husband, Maurizio Gucci who was the head of the Italian luxury fashion brand, the Gucci fashion house.

Lady Gaga stars as the embittered Patrizia Reggiani. The trailer starts with a shot of Gaga, draped in expensive-looking fur and jewellery walking towards the camera. A voiceover of the A Star is Born actor is heard featuring a thick Italian accent. Throughout the trailer we also see the characters of other Gucci heavyweights such as Maurizio Gucci, Paolo Gucci, Aldo Gucci and Rodolfo Gucci; played by Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Al Pacino and Jeremy Irons respectively.

A set of character posters of the movie were also released and social media was rife with comments about the incredible transformation of Jared Leto, who plays Paolo Gucci.

However, members of the real-life Gucci family were less than thrilled about the movie. Speaking to the Associated Press, Patrizia Gucci, the second cousin of Maurizio, said that the family was ‘truly disappointed’ in the film and that it was akin to ‘stealing the identity of a family to make a profit’. The Gucci family had lost its stake in the fashion brand in 1993.
