Japanese filmmaker Masakazu Kaneko’s film Ring Wandering won a big honour at the closing ceremony of the 52nd International Film Festival of India (IFFI). The movie, which is all about an aspiring manga artist, was awarded the Golden Peacock Award, which includes a cash prize of Rs 40 lakh.
Jitendra Joshi, who is best known for his performances in the Netflix series Sacred Games, won the best male actor award for the Marathi drama Godavari. Nikhil Mahajan, who has directed the movie was also felicitated with a special jury award at the festival.
The movie is a philosophical expedition of life and death, borrowing the title Godavari from the river that flows from Maharashtra to the southern states of the country. The movie follows a grumpy man called Nishikant Deshmukh (Joshi) and also marks Mahajan's ode to the late filmmaker Nishikant Kamat.
The best female actor award was won by Angela Molina for her film Charlotte helmed by Simon Franco. The movie is an absurd journey of an actor, which is performed by Molina, who reinvents herself in the twilight of her career.
Russian film The Dorm by the filmmaker Roman Vasyanov received the Special Jury Mention. Special Jury Mention for the Debut Feature Film of a Director was won by Simon Farriol’s Wealth of the World. Meanwhile, the Best Debut Feature Film of a Director was won by Argentina director Mari Alessandrini’s Zahori.
The closing ceremony held on Sunday was attended by celebrities like Manoj Bajpayee and Madhuri Dixit, as well as Union Information and Broadcasting Minister, Anurag Thakur and Goa Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant.
