Kamal Haasan, who's busy touring across India to promote Vikram, has an update about his long-pending, Indian 2. The actor-politician said the project was pretty much still on the cards, and talks had been going on to resume its shooting.
According to sources, director Shankar is looking to resume the work on Indian 2, once he wraps up the shoot of RC 15, starring Ram Charan and Kiara Advani. The upcoming political drama has a story by filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj of Petta-fame.
Speaking to the press, Kamal Haasan, added, “Nearly 60 per cent of the shoot has been completed. We are finding ways to resolve the conflicts surrounding our film.”
The Indian 2 shooting has been halted, owing to the Covid-19 pandemic. For more than two years, the makers were uncertain when filming would resume. In 2020, a crane accident occurred at EVP Studios on the outskirts of Chennai, where massive sets were erected. The lightning equipment crashed to the floor, resulting in the death of three crew members. More than ten people were injured, too. Though compensation was given to the families of the deceased eventually, this made everyone speculate that the project would drop, as it has incurred a huge loss to the producers, financially.
Backed by Lyca Productions, Indian 2 features Siddharth, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Rakul Preet Singh, Delhi Ganesh, and Bobby Simha, among others. Further, the production house had filed charges against Shankar for not finishing Indian 2 on time, in spite of spending Rs 180 crore. The case was heard at the court and the judges had ordered the involved parties to sort out the issue amicably. However, the talks remained unsuccessful.
Touted to be a political thriller, Indian 2 has a music score by Anirudh Ravichander.
Indian 2 is a sequel to the 1996-hit Indian, featuring Kamal Haasan, in the role of an aged freedom fighter. The ambitious film was announced in the grand finale of 2017's Bigg Boss Tamil.
Besides an untitled film with Pa Ranjith, Kamal Haasan has been writing a script for a film, directed by Malik-fame, Mahesh Narayanan.
For now, Ulaganayagan will visit Kochi, Mumbai and Malaysia, for promoting the Lokesh Kanagaraj-directorial, which is scheduled to release on June 3.
