Charlotte Stoudt will take over as showrunner starting with season three of the Apple TV+ series.
Apple TV+ has renewed the media drama The Morning Show, starring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, for a third season with a new showrunner. Starting with season three, Charlotte Stoudt will take over as showrunner. Kerry Ehrin, who created The Morning Show and acted as showrunner for the first two seasons, will consult on the third season while continuing to produce new shows for Apple TV+ as part of her previously disclosed overall arrangement.
The Morning Show's third showrunner in as many seasons is Stoudt. The WGA Award winner, who has worked on shows like Fosse/Verdon, Homeland, and House of Cards, has signed a multi-year overall contract with Apple TV+ for scripted programming. Ehrin was Apple's first overall contract when she joined The Morning Show as showrunner in April 2018, replacing original showrunner Jay Carson as part of the show's season one revamp to embrace the #MeToo movement.
The Morning Show, the streamer's flagship drama, returned in September 2021 with a 10-episode second season and a weekly rollout, with the finale premiering on November 19.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, Matt Cherniss, Apple TV+'s head of programming, said in a statement that it's been exciting to watch The Morning Show grow from strength to strength over the last two seasons, exploring relevant topics that have connected with fans all around the world while still being highly addictive and entertaining. They're looking forward to seeing where Charlotte takes these great characters in season three, as well as seeing the magic Jennifer, Reese, and the rest of the incredible ensemble continue to bring to the riveting world of morning television.
Michael Ellenberg, who also serves as the studio, executive produces The Morning Show, along with Aniston and Kristin Hahn through Echo Films, Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter through Hello Sunshine, and Mimi Leder, who will helm the entire third season. Stoudt will also be a member of the executive producing team.
In a statement released Monday, Stoudt said that she is pleased to be joining forces with Apple TV+ and The Morning Show. She further shared that the cast is truly to die for, led by the amazing Aniston and Witherspoon. Stoudt further praised Kerry, Mimi, and Michael, as well as the teams at Media Res, Hello Sunshine, and Echo Films, by saying that they have created a delectable and provocative environment.
