Shahid Kapoor’s Jersey has been a film, fans have eagerly waited for. But the film’s release kept getting postponed for multiple reasons. One of the reasons recently being a plagiarism case, which has now gotten a verdict.

There were reports that suggested that the film’s latest postponement was after a writer accused the makers of plagiarising the story. The case went to the Bombay High Court and has given its verdict, which favours the film’s makers.

Producer Aman Gill told TOI that the team was gearing up to release the film this holiday weekend but they decided not to until they get a nod from the court. “With hearing scheduled for Wednesday, we had no time to plan for the Thursday release,” he said.

The producer added that this was the reason they decided to push the film’s release by another week and now following the favourable verdict, the movie will hit theatres as planned.

Written and directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, the movie is the Hindi remake of the director’s hit 2019 Telugu sports drama, starring Nani. The Hindi movie also features Mrunal Thakur, Pankaj Kapur, and Shishir Sharma among others.

Jersey follows a failed cricketer in his 30s, who prepares for a return to the game in the hopes of making it to the national team. Shahid Kapoor recently said that the makers did not send the rights of the movie to an OTT platform because they were confident in what they had made.

The movie is set to hit theatres around the country on April 22.
