It's been 14 years since Abbas Tyrewala's Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Naa hit screens and it's exactly been 14 years since the idea of Laal Singh Chaddha was conceived. On 4th July 2008, during the premiere of Aamir Khan's nephew Imran Khan's maiden venture, Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Naa, Aamir and Atul Kulkarni got into a casual conversation, where the duo discussed their love for cinema and how they were fascinated by Tom Hanks's film, Forrest Gump. Both the actors agreed that the film should travel places and reach people. It was after this conversation that Atul Kulkarni felt inspired to write Laal Singh Chaddha, a remake of the iconic film Forrest Gump.
The intention behind the production was to tell the story of an innocent young man who finds his way to live life with happiness. The makers felt that stories like these shouldn't be left behind in the drawer, but told to as many people as possible.
While Laal Singh Chaddha is an epitome of love, the journey behind the making of the film, was not a cakewalk. It took around 8 years for Aamir Khan Productions to acquire the rights to remake Forrest Gump. Laal Singh Chaddha is said to be one of the most ambitious projects of Aamir Khan Productions
As for Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Naa, which starred Imran, Genelia, Prateik Babbar and Manjari Phadnis, turned out to a coming of age romantic comedy that continues to resonate with pop culture. The film had music by AR Rahman and was bankrolled by Mansoor Khan and Aamir Khan under Aamir Khan Productions. After Lagaan, it was one of the first few films produced by Aamir Khan Productions.
In the meantime, Laal Singh Chaddha, bankrolled by Aamir Khan Productions, Kiran Rao, and Viacom18 Studios, has Aamir Khan in the titular character, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Mona Singh, and Naga Chaitanya as part of the star cast. The film is slated to release on August 11.
