Jug Jugg Jeeyo: Varun Dhawan on how Raj Mehta balanced emotions and comedy in the film; teases a surprise at the end

Varun Dhawan’s next comes in the form of Jug Jugg Jeeyo, a family dramedy that promises to be an all out entertainer. The actor recently opened up about the film, and how it balances its emotional and comic aspects of the story.

At the launch event of the film’s first track, The Punjaabban song, IANS quoted Dhawan talking about how the film deals with the concept of divorce. In the film, Anil Kapoor, who plays Dhawan’s father, announces his intention of divorcing Neetu Kapoor, who plays Dhawan’s mother. Ironically, Dhawan himself is in the midst of discussing a divorce with his wife, played by Kiara Advani.

Dhawan talked about how even divorce can feel ‘funny’ for someone who is not involved in the situation and views it as a third party. The actor talked about how the film involved relationships coming together, including the parents, and in-laws.

Regarding the main storyline of the divorce, Dhawan talked about how people, even adults, view their parents’ divorce. Even if the grown children themselves opt for separation from their partners, they would always ‘revolt’ if they heard news of their parents divorce, and it would always be difficult for them to handle.

The actor said that director Raj Mehta had used comedy in a ‘very interesting way’ to tell the film’s story. His take also made sure to include emotional elements in the movie as well. Dhawan also teased that audiences will have a surprise to look forward to in the film, saying “There will be something that will surprise you".

Jug Jugg Jeeyo will be released in theatres on June 24, 2022.
