If the buzz is to go by, Lokesh Kanagaraj's recent directorial Vikram is all set to release on Disney + Hostar on July 8. Vikram has emerged as one of the biggest grossers in Tamil cinema and it recently overtook the collection by SS Rajamouli's Bahubali 2: The Conclusion. The box office collection has already crossed Rs 150 crore in Tamil Nadu and theatres are still running to packed houses.
Vikram has Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan playing the lead along with Vijay Sethupathi and Fahadh Faasil, and has a special appearance by Suriya. The rest of the star cast in the action thriller includes Narain, Kalidas Jayaram, Arjun Das, Gayathrie Shankar, Chemban Vinod Jose, Sampath Ram, Hareesh Peradi and Shivani Narayanan. Music for the film is by Anirudh Ravichander. Cinematography is by Girish Gangadharan and editing is by Philomin Raj. The team recently had a grand success meet in Chennai, celebrating the great run of the film.
Speaking at the event, Kamal Haasan said that the biggest gift was the love the audience had shown the team. He said on the occasion, "They say I gifted car, bike and watch to those who worked in the team. But the real gift is what the audience has given the team. The money that poor workers spent on buying tickets for the film, with their meagre earnings is what I consider a true gift." Kamal Haasan had showered the team of Vikram with gifts after the film's roaring success.
Though there was a buzz that the OTT release might get delayed as the film has been successfully running in theatres, now, it looks like it might stream on OTT from July 8. The digital rights for the film has been bagged by Disney + Hotstar. The streaming partner had made the announcement earlier, "Here's the #BigAnnouncement #Vikram #DigitalStreamingPartner #DisneyplusHotstar (sic)" It is said that the digital premiere will happen in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada on July 8.
