The junior doctors are sitting on a dharna protesting the RG Kar incident. Some messages were exchanged between the state government and the protesters, but the issue has not been resolved. The doctors held a press conference on Wednesday and clearly stated that the movement would go on till the criminals were caught. They were trolled with the accusation that patients were not treated due to their movement. However, the claim did not have a strong ground. Now, Kamaleswar Mukherjee raised his voice supporting the junior doctors.
Kamaleswar — a doctor-turned-director — wrote on social media that threatening the doctors would be fruitless since they were used to handling obstacles since the first day they came to this profession.
Kamaleswar wrote, “In this world, doctors witness birth and death, epidemic or recovery. A few years back, that was proven during the Covid pandemic. According to the IMA statistics, around 200 doctors in West Bengal gave their lives while fighting COVID-19. Unofficial reports say that the number is almost 500.” He asked, “How many families received government compensation? Unofficial reports say the number is 1 (Please correct me if I am wrong).”
Kamaleswar also wrote, “Scolding or threatening the doctors who raised legitimate demands, and keeping them awake at night, will be fruitless. Since the first day of their profession, they get used to natural, social, and administerial obstacles.”
