Kangana Ranaut is certainly keeping busy these days. The actress is currently filming for her next directorial venture, Emergency, which she also produces and stars in. Recently the actress also added another film to her kitty, signing up to play the role of legendary Bengali theatre actress, Binodini Dasi or Noti Binodini.
The upcoming film will be directed by Pradeep Sarkaar, popular for his work on films like Parineeta(2005) and Mardaani(2014). The script of the upcoming film will be written by Prakash Kapadia.
In a statement, Kangana had expressed her elation of bagging the role. “I am a very big fan of Pradeep Sarkaar ji and very happy for this opportunity. Also this will be my first collaboration with Prakash Kapadia ji and Iam completely thrilled to be part of this remarkable journey with some of the greatest artist of this country”, said the actress. Kangana is expected to start filming for the upcoming movie sometime next year, after she fulfills the commitments on Emergency.
The late veteran theatre actress Noti Binodini was a prominent figure in Indian theatre culture. Starting her acting career at the age of 12, Noti Binodini had retired from theatre in her early 20s. In her 12 year long career, the Bengali actress had acted in more than 80 roles, essaying well known characters such as Pramila, Sita, Draupadi, Radha, Ayesha, Kaikeyi, Motibibi, and Kapalkundala. She is also well known for being one of the first South Asian theatre actresses to pen her own autobiography, which was titled Amar Katha or The Story of My Life.
The upcoming film would not be the first time Kangana has essayed the role of a real life historical figure. The actress had essayed the role of Rani Lakshmi Bai of Jhansi in Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi and starred as J. Jayalalithaa in Thalaivii. In Emergency, Kangana will portray the role of Indira Gandhi.
