A few moments ago, Hombale Films revealed the first look of director-actor Rishab Shetty’s next directorial, Kantara, which is the production house’s 11th project so far. The teaser, which will be attached to the banner’s big release for the week, KGF: Chapter 2, was released at 10.44 pm and gave audiences quite a vivid look at what’s in store.
Set in the mysterious forest Kantara, and the people dependent on the jungle for a livelihood, it depicts a man vs nature as well as man vs man conflict.
So far, Rishab has been quite guarded about the subject of his film, even though the first look poster of a Kambala race seemed to be a dead give-away. He has only said that Kantara has an element of fantasy in it and explores a human vs nature conflict in the setting of a mystical forest. The film has Rishab Shetty in the lead, with Sapthami Gowda, Kishore, Pramod Shetty and Achyuth Kumar in pivotal roles. Kantara marks Saptami’s second film after the Suri directorial Popcorn Monkey Tiger.
The film, which was announced in early August last year and went on floors weeks later is believed to be nearly ready, with the makers gunning for an end of 2022 theatrical release. The film has music by Ajaneesh Loknath, who has previously done the BGM for Rishab’s Sarkaari Hiriya Prathamika Shaale: Kasaragode and served as composer on Hero. Ajaneesh was also the music director of Bell Bottom, which has Rishab as the lead actor.
Rishab, who was last seen onscreen in the Raj B Shetty directorial Kannada film Garuda Gamana Vrishaba Vahana, and in the Telugu movie Mishan Impossible, is gearing up for the release of Harikathe Alla Girikathe. He is also expected to begin work on Bell Bottom 2 shortly. A directorial with Century Star Shivarajkumar in the lead has also been announced. Rudraprayag, which was meant to be Rishab’s next directorial, was postponed in favour of Kantara earlier. The filmmaker-actor has not commented yet on when he will resume work on Rudraprayag.
