The shoot for Karthi's Japan is on the verge of completion. The latest we hear is that the team is currently shooting a song in Kashmir. A picture of Karthi in his quirky hairdo, posing with fans is doing the rounds on the internet. The film, directed by Raju Murugan, is gearing up for a Diwali release and the team is trying to complete the portions at the earliest.

Shoot for a dance number underway

The song, which is being canned in Kashmir, is said to be a dance number, which is choreographed by Sandy Master. The film has an introductory track and two folksy numbers. Music is by GV Prakash Kumar. Anu Emmanuel plays the leading lady in the film. Japan marks the 25th venture of Karthi, who was last seen as the Chola spy and commandander Vallavarayan Vanthiyathevan in Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan.

Meanwhile, we hear that Japan is based on the life of Tiruvarur Murugan, who was the brain behind many robberies in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, including the jewellery theft at an outlet of Lalitha Jewellery. Murugan was a HIV positive patient and when the Bengaluru Police got hold of him, they took care of his medical treatment. Murugan then helped the police solve cases that involved him. However, he died in 2020 due to ill health.

Karthi continues to bask in the accolades of his performance as Vanthiyathevan in Ponniyin Selvan part 1 and 2. The film had Karthi working with a stellar cast which included Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Jayam Ravi, Prakash Raj, Rahman, Prabhu, Sobhita Dhulipala, Aishwarya Lekshmi, to name a few.

Music for the film is by AR Rahman, cinematography by Ravi Varman and editing by Sreekar Prasad. The films, which were bankrolled by Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions,  opened to positive reviews from critics and audiences and set the cash registers ringing.
