It was announced in September that Karthi and Muthaiah are joining hands again for the second time for Viruman which is bankrolled by Suriya-Jyotika's 2D Entertainment Pvt Ltd. The movie also marks the acting debut of veteran filmmaker Shankar's daughter Aditi Shankar.
Tipped as a rural drama, like the previous outings of Muthaiah, it is heard that the makers have inked a deal with Disney+ Hotstar. However, the film, the shooting of which, is expected to be wrapped up by December, is likely to have a theatrical release first, on summer 2022.
The first schedule of Viruman, we hear, has been completed at Theni and the team is all set to head to Madurai for the next schedule. This schedule is said to have some intense fight sequences. Karthi and Muthaiah had earlier teamed up for Komban (streaming on Sun NXT and MX Player) which released in 2015.
In his career spanning 14 years, this is the first time Karthi has worked for the second time with a filmmaker. The actor had taken to his social media account after the film's launch to share his excitement of being in Madurai after he shot for his debut project, Paruthiveeran, there.
Rajkiran, who acted in a pivotal role in Komban, will be seen essaying a key role in Viruman, too. Prakash Raj and Soori are other actors who have meaty roles in the project which has Selvakumar cranking the camera, Yuvan Shankar Raja scoring music and Anl Arasu choreographing action sequences. Karthi has Mani Ratnam's magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan and PS Mithran's Sardar in his kitty. Muthaiah's last outing, Pulikkuthi Pandi, starring Vikram Prabhu and Lakshmi Menon in lead roles, had a premiere on Sun NXT earlier this year.
