Lata Mangeshkar's funeral passed away on February 6 in Mumbai after testing positive for COVID-19. The 92-year-old singer's funeral rites took place at Mumbai's Shivaji Park with full state honours.
Present at the ceremony was Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who offered a floral wreath to Mangeshkar, according to The Hindu.
Sister Asha Bhosle, Shah Rukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, producer Siddharth Roy Kapur, Maharashtra Protocol Minister Aaditya Thackeray, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, NCP Chief Sharad Pawar, among others also paid their last respects.
News18 reports that Mangeshkar's mortal remains, wrapped in the national flag, were taken from her South Mumbai residence to Shivaji Park ahead of the last rites.
Crowds of fans thronged the roads as the procession, escorted by military police, made its way to the funeral grounds.
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal told PTI that around 25 kg of sandalwood had been procured for the ceremony and the park barricaded as well.
Mangeshkar known for her extensive body of musical work across several Indian languages was in hospital for 28 days before she breathed her last. After contracting the virus, she was also diagnosed with pneumonia.
