Hridyanath Mangeshkar, Lata Mangeshkar's brother, recalled memories of the legendary singer's life on the show Naam Reh Jaayega, which concluded on Sunday. According to The Indian Express, Hridyanath stated that his sister was extremely committed to her family. He cited an example and said: “She always wanted me to win an award, that was her dream. When she won the Bharat Ratna, she didn’t celebrate it, but when I got a Padma Shri, she celebrated it like a festival.”
Usha Mangeshkar also mentioned her sister. Usha said that Lata would get inputs from her sister Meena Khadikar. She also went on to mention that Meena was constantly beside Lata during her recordings. "After recording in the studio, Lata di would ask Meena tai for her thoughts on the song. She would only give a go-ahead for the song after Meena’s approval. She trusted her a lot," Usha explained.
Usha further highlighted that her sister believed in contributing back to the community and did a lot of charitable work. “Lata di has done a lot of charity work, that too at the time when she was not working much. She has built Asia’s biggest and most affordable hospital in Pune,” she remarked. She added that Lata's ambition was to open an old-age home for elderly Bollywood musicians.
