Lin-Manuel Miranda is making his feature directorial debut with the film tick, tick…BOOM! The film is set to be a Netflix original and is based on the autobiographical musical by Rent playwright Jonathan Larson. The film features Andrew Garfield in the leading role and the streaming date is announced. The film is coming on Netflix on November 19, 2021.
Talking about the plot of tick, tick…BOOM!, the film revolves around Jon, a young theatre composer who’s waiting tables at a New York City diner in 1990. Along with that, he is writing what he hopes will be the next great American musical. Ahead of showcasing his work in a make-or-break performance, Jon feels the pressure from everywhere such as from his girlfriend Susan, who dreams of an artistic life beyond New York City and from his friend Michael, who has moved on from his dream to a life of financial security. He is amidst an artistic community being ravaged by the AIDS epidemic.
Jon is at a crossroads with the clock ticking and faces the question everyone must reckon with: What are we meant to do with the time we have?
Along with Andrew, the upcoming Netflix film also features Alexandra Shipp, Robin de Jesús, Joshua Henry, Mj Rodriguez, Bradley Whitford, Tariq Trotter aka Black Thought of The Roots along with Judith Light and Vanessa Hudgens.
Meanwhile, Garfield's upcoming film is The Eyes of Tammy Faye. The biopic is adapted from the documentary of the same name by Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato. The film is set to premiere at the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival to be held in September.
The film features Jessica Chastain in the titular role and co-stars Cherry Jones, Fredric Lehne, Louis Cancelmi, Sam Jaeger, Gabriel Olds, Mark Wystrach and Vincent D'Onofrio.
