From Dulquer Salmaan, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Mammootty to Nazriya Nazim, Dev Mohan and Lal, Mollywood actors are part of some big projects in Telugu

Malayalam cinema and its actors stole the spotlight during the pandemic with the audience across India watching Mollywood films. This has also opened doors for the actors from the industry to be part of several pan-Indian projects, especially from Telugu cinema. While actors such as Dulquer Salmaan and Mammootty, who had earlier worked in the film industry, have been continuing to get good roles, even those like Prithviraj Sukumaran, Fahadh Faasil and Nazriya have gone on grab some plum roles on strength of their performances and popularity.
Here’s a look at some of the most-awaited big-budget Telugu films that also have Malayalam actors playing pivotal roles.
Salaar
The much-anticipated Prabhas-starrer, helmed by KGF director Prashanth Neel, will have Prithviraj Sukumaran in a pivotal role. It will be the first pan-Indian film that the Malayalam star will be part of, after starring in the Bollywood venture Naam Shabana years ago.
Agent
Mammootty will make his Telugu comeback with Surrender Reddy’s big budget action thriller Agent, which has Akhil Akkineni in the lead. The megastar had shot his portions in Europe and Hyderabad, recently. The makers had also revealed his character poster from the film.
Shaakuntalam
Director Gunasekhar’s period film, which has Samantha in the titular role, has Sufiyum Sujatayum fame Dev Mohan as King Dushyant. The actor learnt Telugu as well as horse-riding, sword fighing and archery for the role in the much-anticipated movie.
Lieutenant Ram
Hanu Raghavapudi’s period romantic drama has Dulquer Salmaan in the lead as a soldier posted in Jammu and Kashmir. The film marks Dulquer second straight Telugu film after Mahanati and also has Mrunal Thakur and Rashmika Mandanna in pivotal roles.
Yashoda
The sci-fi thriller, written and helmed by Hari Shankar and Harish Narayanan, has Samantha, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar and Unni Mukundan in the lead. This is Unni’s fourth big Telugu movie after Bhaagamathie, Janatha Garage and Khiladi.
Ante Sundaraniki
Vivek Athreya’s romcom, which has Nani as its male protagonist, also marks Nazriya Nazim’s Telugu debut. The actress plays Leela Thomas in the movie, which is also her first film since Anjali Menon’s Koode in 2018. The movie is set to release in June 2022.
Pushpa: The Rule
Fahadh Faasil will be seen again as the sly and arrogant IPS officer Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat taking on Allu Arjun’s Pushpa as the saga continues in the second part of Sukumar’s directorial. While Fahadh’s character had only made a guest appearance in the blockbuster Pushpa: The Rise, he is set to play a major role in the 2023 release.
NBK 107
Actor-director Lal has joined the sets of Gopichand Malineni’s ‘mass’ entertainer with Nandamuri Balakrishna tentatively titled NBK 107. Lal was earlier part of Prabhas’ Saaho.
