Lopamudra Mitra has been reigning in the music world for 30 years. From Benimadhab to Jaminaboti and Dha Di Na – she has presented a large collection of superhit songs. Her unique voice and melodious numbers have made her a popular singer even today.

In an interview with Anandabazar, Lopamudra said that the end of HMV studio has left a void. “The first day of going to the HMV studio is the most memorable event in my career. But I am sad to think that this HMV nostalgia is no more. Many things have changed in these years. Sometimes I regret that many things are left undone. I very much wished to record the song Benimadhab differently. But I don't know where I shall go, whom I shall tell. I feel sad,” she said.

Talking about her mentor, Samir Chattopadhyay, she said that she misses him every moment. “My mentor Samir Chattopadhyay (Kaka) did not live to see this day. Without him, I could not have travelled so far. My father also did not think I would sing so much. A programme has been arranged for completing thirty years. Now I think Kaka could arrange a good list of what I should sing in the two hours programme. Now I can’t discuss it with anyone, which is a sad thing.”

Lopamudra has sung several protest songs in her career. Talking about those songs, she said that in reality, she is a timid person. “I don’t think I have ever protested against anything. I am a timid person who shuts her eyes often. I don’t say anything fearing controversy. Maybe that's why a kind of angst is born inside me and often that is expressed through my songs,” she said. However, she has retaliated against the online trolls sometimes. “In the age of the internet, everyone thinks they can say anything. That’s why I have to retaliate. However, Joy (Sarkar, husband) tells me not to talk so much online,” she said.
