Nearly a week after Fahadh Faasil's Malik released on Amazon Prime Video, the film's helmer Mahesh Narayanan opened up about the movie that has faced a lot of controversy.
Talking to The Week, Mahesh said that Malik was actually executed as an 'out and out big screen movie'. "When one watches the film on a phone screen, many details would get missed out," the filmmaker feels.
He then went on to state, "If I were making Malik for OTT, I would have made it differently. Maybe it could have been a series."
Mahesh further adds that films releasing on OTT and OTT films should be executed differently. He feels that people are multi-tasking when it comes to watching a film on OTT and thus, the filmmakers have to make the movie specifically to keep their viewers hooked to the screens.
Talking about the controversy, Mahesh said that somebody's greed causes a riot. He laughs about people calling him a 'Sanghi' and 'Jihadi' when he openly expresses having a leftist ideology.
Malik has also been tagged as 'Islamophobic'. To that, Mahesh said, "If the reasons are based on criticising extremists or political Islam, then it proves that our society is becoming more intolerant."
Malik is Fahadh's third OTT release in 2021 after Irul and Joji. It is, however, his fourth direct-to-OTT release. The first film starring him to directly release on Amazon Prime Video was C U Soon. The film has been streaming on the platform since 2020.
Apart from Fahadh, Malik also stars Nimisha Sajayan, Vinay Forrt, Dileesh Pothan and Joju George in pivotal roles.
