Priyanka Thimmesh, who made the transition from TV to the big screen in 2015 with Ganapa and was most recently seen in the 2020 Bheemasena Nalamaharaja, returned to the telly earlier this year with Bigg Boss Kannada. Fresh from her outing on the latest season of the reality show, she is now gearing up for the release of her film with Prajwal Hegde, called Arjun Gowda, which, incidentally, is the last film produced by veteran filmmaker Ramu, actress Malashree’s husband.
Directed by Lucky Shankar, Arjun Gowda is touted to be an action-packed entertainer that also stars Rahul Dev, Sparsha Rekha and Sadhu Kokila, among others. In her first film with Prajwal, Priyanka plays Jhanvi, a girl from a well-to-do family, who, as it turns out, is also the daughter of the antagonist in the tale. Despite objections from her family, she falls in love with and continues seeing Arjun Gowda, who is also quite the angry man. How she balances her relationships forms the crux of her character arc. The actress has been quoted as saying that even though the film is an out-and-out commercial entertainer, she has ample screen time and character development, which is why she chose to do the film that is now ready for release on December 31.
Interestingly, although Priyanka has been in the industry for six years now, Arjun Gowda will only be her sixth release, making it an average of one film per year only. Ask her why and the actress says that it’s been a conscious choice to avoid being typecast by doing roles that are way too similar. She is, in fact, hopeful that her upcoming films, Made in China and Sugarless, will help her continue the streak of doing different and slightly experimental cinema that gives her scope to perform and be versatile.
