Amazon Prime Videos’ upcoming original documentary My Name is Pauli Murray, based on the life of American activist Pauli Murray will be releasing on October 1 this year. The streaming platform recently released the teaser along with the date announcement for the documentary. The hard-hitting documentary chronicles the life and journey of Pauli Murray who fought for women's rights.
Pauli Murray has played a monumental role in America's women's rights movement, from fifteen years before the time Rosa Parks refused to surrender her bus seat. Even before Rosa Parks came to join the movement, Murray had her knee-deep in the fight for social justice. An attorney, activist, Episcopal priest and author, Murray helped shape landmark litigations and raised awareness around issues of race and gender equality.
Her life, as an African American young girl being raised in the segregated South resulted in her championing for broader notions of gender identity. She resonated with the feeling of existing beyond accepted boundaries and cultural norms. Her incessant personal journey and consistent advocacy for women's rights and equality foreshadowed some of the most politically burning issues of our times.
The upcoming documentary is narrated in Pauli's own words, reminiscing her unique and extraordinary journey with a candid touch. My Name is Pauli Murray is a 91-minutes long documentary helmed by Betsy West and Julie Cohen. The documentary is produced by Talleah Bridges McMahon and will be available to stream on Amazon Prime on October 1, 2021.
