Stories centred around female detectives are rare in Hindi films. Which is why the soon-to-be-released film Neeyat will be a treat to those looking to watch something hatke, since Vidya Balan plays a detective who is tasked with finding the truth behind the mysterious murder of billionaire Ashish Kapoor (played by Ram Kapoor).

The entire cast and crew of the film interacted with the media in Mumbai earlier today after the trailer of the film was well received by audiences.

Talking about her character in the film, Vidya said, "The prep for the film was an interesting process for me. It was mostly done remotely since Anu (Menon, director) was in London and I was in Mumbai. We had several Zoom sessions to understand the character, the story, and Anu's vision. I love this genre as an audience member. So, even if not consciously, I must have taken inspiration from the many detectives that I have watched onscreen while playing my character in Neeyat."

Ram, who was seated next to Vidya, quickly added, "But her character is like none other. It is unique. You will have to watch her on the big screen."

Vidya then continued, "I think more than me, it is how Anu made me perform in the film, because I was following the script and everything that she was asking me to do. My character was beautifully fleshed out by Anu. My character is not a typical detective, the kind that you may have seen in different films and shows. So, if she clicks with the audience, the credit goes to Anu."

Neeyat is directed by Anu Menon and produced by Vikram Malhotra under Abundantia Entertainment and Amazon Prime. It also stars Shahana Goswami, Rahul Bose, Niki Walia, Shashank Arora, Amrita Puri, and Dipannita Sharma, and will release in theatres on July 7.
