It looks like there is a huge buzz over Udhayanidhi Stalin's upcoming film, Nenjukku Needhi, which is a remake of director Anubhav Sinha's Hindi film, Article 15. The film's songs and trailers were released yesterday at a grand event, for which the film industry's who's who were present.
Now we hear that the trailer has already hit 1 million views. Nenjukku Needhi, directed by Arunraja Kamaraj, has Tanya Ravichandran playing the leading lady, and has Aari Arujunan and Shivani Rajasekhar as part of the star cast.
Music for the film is by Dhibu Ninan Thomas. While cinematography for the film is by Dinesh Krishnan, editing is by Ruben.
This is the first time that Udhayanidhi Stalin is playing a cop in his acting career. Speaking at the audio and trailer launch of Nenjukku Needhi yesterday, Udhayanidhi stated that he was apprehensive about playing a cop. He thanked Dinesh Krishnan for getting his look right for the film. He added that when he had told people in the industry that the Nenjukku Needhi is a remake of Article 15, many had advised him against taking up the role. The title of the Tamil version is named after the autobiography of Udhayanidhi's grandfather, DMK patriarch and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M Karunanidhi.
The Hindi version had Ayushmann Khurrana playing the lead as a police officer, who ends up uncovering a history of caste oppression in a remote village in Uttar Pradesh after a girl is found missing from a village inhabited by a oppressed community. Article 15 is said to be inspired by real life incidents - the 2014 Badaun gang rape and the Una flogging incident in 2016. The title for the Hindi version is named after Article 15 of the Indian Constitution that prohibits discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex or birthplace.
