Netflix reveals Most popular films and TV of 2022: Do RRR, Darlings make the list?

Netflix's year-ender list of most watched films and TV shows of 2022 has a few surprises. With films like RRR, Gangubai Kathiawadi, and Darlings turning out some of the most sought-after titles of the year, the streaming service has further grown in stature in India over the past 12 months. However, quite interestingly, none of the Indian films or TV shows features in Netflix's most popular lists for 2022 and while the inclusion of titles such as Stranger Things (Season 4) and Enola Holmes 2 seems quite obvious, streamers would be surprised that the global blockbuster RRR has somehow missed out.

Dhanush's The Gray Man tops the list

While RRR, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, and other big names were excluded, the Russo Brothers' action thriller The Gray Man closed the year as the most popular English Film on Netflix. The film premiered on the streaming giant on July 22 and met with instant success with users commending the slick action sequences, while also criticizing the lacklustre plot. Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans headline the film along with Ana de Aramas, Wagner Moura, Jessica Henwick, and India's own Dhanush.

The Adam Project, Purple Hearts, Hustle, and The Tinder Swindler are among the other titles that made it to the list of the 10 most popular English films on Netflix in 2022.

Dahmer, Stranger Things, and more...

The English TV series category saw a mix of genres make it to the year's Top 10 list with Season 4 of Stranger Things proving to be the most watched of all. The maiden season of the comedy-horror show Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega, Christina Ricci, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and others, stood at #2 with Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan's polarizing retelling of the Jeffrey Dahmer story in Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story taking the third spot. Also found in the list are Bridgerton: Season 2, The Watcher: Season 1, The Umbrella Academy: Season 3, and other titles.

RRR, Darlings miss out...

Not very long ago, RRR created history by trending on Netflix for 14 weeks straight and that too across both English & Non-English categories. So, the film's exclusion from the year-ender most popular lists definitely comes as a shocker, although it loses out to many credible international, non-English titles such as All Quiet on the Western Front, Carter, and Troll. Alia Bhatt's maiden production venture Darlings too misses out and so does the Karthik Aaryan blockbuster Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2.

As many as nine titles in Netflix's top 10 non-English series of 2022 have had their first season premiere this year. Korean shows All of Us Are Dead and Extraordinary Attorney Woo grabbed the top 2 spots on the list with Business Proposal taking the eighth spot. Here's the full list:
