Welcome to the podcast that brings you up to speed with lesser-known facts, anecdotes, trivia, and a whole lot more about your favorite movies and shows. This is OTTplay Now You Know and I am your host Nikhil.
Today, we deep dive into the Golden Globe-winning comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine, that follows the crazy misadventures that take place in a fictional police station. The winner of 2 Primetime Emmys is headlined by Andy Samberg who’s comic timing has won many fans. So here are things you probably didn’t know about Brooklyn Nine-Nine:
First up, the chant, Nine-Nine, was not a brainchild of the creators, but of Terry Crews. Crews, who plays Sergeant Terry Jeffords in the series, used to chant Nine-Nine in order to motivate the other cast members. It became such a rage that the writers eventually wrote it into the show.
About casting, did you know that Stephanie Beatriz had auditioned for Amy Santiago, and Chelsea Peretti had auditioned for Rosa Diaz. It is almost unbelievable that the iconic Gina Linetti was created later specifically for Peretti.
The show has taken frequent jabs at Amy Santiago for being a bad dancer. But did you know that Melissa Fumero, the actress who plays the character, happens to be a professionally trained dancer?
The character names such as Hitchcock and Sully are in fact a tribute to the producers of Parks and Recreation. Incidentally, Hiscock is also a writer and producer for Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
So these were some of the lesser-known facts and trivia about your favorite show Brooklyn Nine-Nine. I shall be back again tomorrow with another episode about a popular film or show until then it's me Nikhil signing off for now,
