The highly anticipated Christopher Nolan film Oppenheimer has released its first look teaser. Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy plays the titular character supported by a star-studded ensemble of Robert Downey Jr, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Rami Malek, Florence Pugh, Jack Quaid, Josh Hartnett, Dane DeHaan, Matthew Modine, Alden Ehrenreich, David Dastmalchian, Jason Clarke, James D'Arcy, Casey Affleck, and Kenneth Branagh. It’s safe to say that the film boasts the most impressive cast ever assembled in history. So for today’s Now You Know podcast, here are six things you probably didn't know about the film.

  1. Director Christopher Nolan has always been particular about using old-school 35mm film instead of digital recording. For Oppenheimer, in an unprecedented move, Nolan is using black and white films in IMAX cameras for certain scenes.
  2. Actor Josh Hartnett, who was once tipped to become a bankable star in the 2000s is set to play an important role in the film. This will be his first collaboration with Nolan after he declined the role of Batman after being shortlisted along with two others for the role in Nolan’s 2005 film Batman Begins. Hartnett later admitted that it probably was a mistake to decline the opportunity as the role eventually went to Christian Bale, and the rest as they say is history.
  3. The scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer was briefly mentioned in Nolan's previous film Tenet which was released in 2020. It was during a scene involving Dimple Kapadia’s Priya Singh and John David Washington’s nameless character who is simply called the Protagonist. An indication that Nolan had already begun planning for Oppenheimer.
  4. All of Nolan’s feature films, except his debut indie film The Following, have been produced by Warner Brothers. However, an alleged falling out between the company and Nolan after the release of Tenet led to the filmmaker severing ties with the media giants. He switched allegiance to Universal Pictures last year.
  5. The film is based on the 2006 Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer, a biography about the ‘father of the atomic bomb’.
  6. Nolan got the idea for the film from producer Charles Roven when the latter informed Nolan about the biographical book American Prometheus. This piqued Nolan’s interest and after reading the book, Nolan decided to take up the story as his next big project.

Well that's the OTTplay Now You Know for today, until the next time it's your host Nikhil signing out.
