Prithviraj Sukumaran will begin work on Vilayath Buddha, which was supposed to be initially helmed by late director Sachy. The movie, which is based on GR Indugopan’s novel of the same name, is now set to be directed by Sachy’s associate Jayan Nambiar, who had previously worked with Prithviraj in movies such as Ayyappanum Koshiyum and Anarkali.

The actor will begin shooting for the film in October. Scripted by Indugopan and Rajesh Pinnadan, the movie will once again have the actor as part of a story that revolves around the ego clashes between two men. In Vilayath Buddha, the protagonists are a teacher and his student, a sandalwood smuggler.

Prithviraj will essay the character of Double Mohanan, a smuggler who vows to cut down the sandalwood tree – called Vilayath Buddha – that his teacher has been growing in his premises for a personal reason. The story, set in Marayoor, revolves around the clashes between the two polarizing personalities. Kottayam Ramesh is rumoured to be playing the role of the teacher named Bhaskaran.

While the movie is based on the book, the film’s scriptwriter Indugopan had earlier told Kochi Times that the ending of the movie has been changed. He had also stated the project will be executed keeping what Sachy had planned in mind.

Prithviraj is currently in Thiruvananthapuram shooting for Shaji Kailas’ Kaapa, which is also scripted by Indugopan. The movie, which has Prithviraj playing a goon named Kotta Madhu, also has Asif Ali, Aparna Balamurali and Anna Ben as part of the cast.

The actor’s recent release was Theerppu, which is a revenge-drama-cum-dark-comedy helmed by Rathish Ambat and scripted by Murali Gopy. He is gearing up for the release of Alphonse Puthren’s Gold, which is set to hit theatres on September 8. Gold, which also has Nayanthara and Roshan Mathew, will release simultaneously in Malayalam and Tamil.
