Late legendary actor Rishi Kapoor's last film Sharmaji Namkeen is all set to have a digital release on Amazon Prime Video. While fans are excited to witness his acting prowess on screen for one last time, his son Ranbir Kapoor has been busy with the film's promotions, turning into his father's biggest cheerleader.
In his recent interaction with Film Companion, Ranbir Kapoor was asked to share what in his opinion is Rishi Kapoor's biggest USP as an actor. Sharing his thoughts on the same, Ranbir mentioned, "You know this 'passion' is a really overused word and it has got so many different meanings. But my understanding of 'passion' has always been my father."
He further said that to witness the kind of interest, excitement, anxiety, nervousness and insecurity at the time his father was going through his treatment, is something that he had never seen in any actor. Ranbir said that his father didn't really need to feel insecure about whether he will get work as an actor, especially at that stage of his career. He added that it simply blew him away to witness this side of his father, made him emotional and put things into perspective.
Further talking about what he hopes to have imbibed from his father, Ranbir said that the field that they are in (as actors), with all its highs and lows, success and failure, it all doesn't really matter. "What matters is, your purpose in life is to work, and to do that in the best way possible, to do that passionately, to do that honestly and not take your position for granted, is something that I've really imbibed from him," he told the portal.
The Brahmastra actor revealed that Rishi Kapoor would talk about work even during the time he was battling cancer. "He said that today I have a label of somebody who's suffering from cancer. Will any producer or the corporate system that has entered the film industry, will they want to cast me? Will I get work?" shared Ranbir, adding that Rishi Kapoor didn't care whether he was going to survive or not. What he talked about was if he will get work as an actor.
Talking about what kept him going, Ranbir shared that the hope he got from the producer Ritesh Sidhwani to to be back on the sets to complete the film made him very excited. Ranbir added that his father wanted to get better and come back. "And as soon as he got back, the only thing he wanted to do was eat a good chinese meal, have four whiskeys and get back to Sharmaji Namkeen," revealed Ranbir.
Sharmaji Nakeen was completed by veteran actor Paresh Rawal, who stepped into Rishi Kapoor's shoes for the film after his demise. Also starring Juhi Chawla, the Hitesh Bhatia directorial is all set to begin streaming on Amazon Prime Video from March 31.
